“The P Word is a delightful book. It will go far in helping kids understand how their bodies work. Sensitively written, funny, and informative, this book will inspire kids—before, during, and after puberty—to be comfortable in their own skin!”

“As a pediatric urologist, I see many families whose children are having issues with their urinary tract system or reproductive organs. Educating them about how their bodies work and how to keep them healthy is always the first step, especially when going number one is the number one priority! David L. Hu does a marvelous job of presenting sensitive information with accuracy and a sense of humor.”
— David I. Chu, M.D., M.S.C.E., Pediatric Urology, Chicago, IL
“The P Word is a delightful book that presents scientific information about the penis in age appropriate, accessible, and inclusive language. The book’s light-hearted and matter-of-fact tone is sure to help break taboos in talking about bodies and will help young people learn to take care of themselves as they grow and develop.”
— Nicole Cushman, M.P.H., Sexual Health Educator, New York, NY
“As a pediatrician, I know the importance of sharing accurate and appropriate resources with my patients and their families. Kids will enjoy learning about the ‘p word’ at a level they can understand. I highly recommend this refreshingly honest and engaging book!”
— Jennifer A.F. Tender, M.D., Pediatrician, Washington, D.C.
“Brilliant! My 9-year-old boy was fascinated and I even learned a thing or two as well. The colorful and tasteful illustrations are excellent. The presentation of the material is age appropriate and the topics covered (e.g. anatomy, peeing in outer space, marking your territory, etc.) are cleverly organized.”

"Mr. Hu keeps his text shame-free and health (physical, mental and emotional) focused, making this the perfect book to hand to your young penis-haver. I actually gave this to my twelve year-old, who very emphatically did not want to read this with me but was happy to go over it on his own.... I’m just happy that I’m able to answer his questions about bodies as a parent, and that The P Word has given us a really good framework for having frank conversations regarding this specific organ."

"I really enjoyed reading this book with my family! It’s geared for ages 7–12, and I read it to my 5, 7, and 8 yr olds. The illustrations are clear and eye catching—prompting my children to ask questions about what they were seeing. And the wording was clear and descriptive, but simple enough for my 5 yr old to understand, with some fun obscure facts about various mammals with penises. The book is set up with topical sections listed in a table of contents (basically covering anatomy, peeing, reproduction, and hygiene), so it’s easy enough to select topics you want to cover, and hold-off on topics your child isn’t ready for or yet interested in. Overall, this book is a great tool for teaching your child about the important aspects of penises."

“This immensely informative book delves into the topic of the penis—what it is, how it works, and how to keep it healthy. Though a science book at heart, the author presents the material with an unusually sensitive comfort and lightness. Curiosity-piquing headings, illustrations, and insights, many of which revolve around non-human mammals, make for the sort of pageturner rarely encountered in children’s nonfiction.”
— Dan Levy, Program Director, Tillywig Toy and Media Awards
"A refreshingly candid book! The P Word combines fascinating mammal facts, scientific terms, and an appealing format to guide kids—and their parents—to a healthier understanding of their bodies. What a fun way to show that human anatomy doesn't have to be a taboo subject."
